By uniting the values of past generations with a common goal, we not only strengthen the cultural and historical identity of the region, but also create new driving forces for its progress.
Our goal is to promote the development of small town areas by engaging local residents and communities to increase their attractiveness for tourists. Many people have items at home, in their country houses or garages, which may not be of practical value to them, but are of historical significance for certain regions. The "People's Museum" collects such items donated by the inhabitants of these regions and organizes unique exhibitions from them, located in areas with heavy traffic.
Through these joint efforts with residents, we are creating additional attractions in the city that not only preserve our history, but also develop its tourism potential.
The peculiarity of this museum is that all the exhibits are authentic and connected with the history of the city. Eight residents of the city donated unique items from their personal archives to the public organization Heritage of Torzhok, which is responsible for their safety. Most of the exhibits were presented by entrepreneur Alexei Cherepnov. The first exhibition opened in 2023 in the trading floor of the Nikiforovskaya gold embroidery manufactory in Torzhok.
The concept and feature of the project lies in its accessibility for all groups of people with limited mobility. The displays are equipped with tactile and audio systems that provide easy navigation and interaction for visitors with hearing or visual impairments.
The idea of the museum was conceived by the team of the public organization "Heritage of Torzhok" in 2022 as part of a strategy to increase the tourist attractiveness of the local region. The creators of the project have found a unique solution that not only more widely demonstrates the cultural heritage of the city, but also creates additional opportunities for economic growth.
The first exposition "Gold embroidery of the 19th century" was developed with the support of the key partners of the public organization, the Tyflocenter "Vertical" and the "Nikiforov Gold Embroidery Manufactory". The embroidery factory not only provided space for a free exhibition of the collection, but also financed the creation of inclusive expositions. Tiflocentre "Vertical" designed and manufactured unique showcases that made the exhibition accessible to people with visual or hearing impairments.
The purpose of the museum is not only to promote and popularize culture, but also to ensure that all groups of people with limited mobility can enjoy visiting cultural sites.
The museum team strives to expand the territory of the exposition and attract other cities to cooperation. This initiative will help stimulate territorial development, tourism and inclusion. Entrance to all exhibits and expositions in the "People's Museum" is absolutely free, thanks to cooperation with residents of the city and companies that are ready to provide their premises for the exhibition of collections.
